VOLUNTEERS OFFERING INDIVIDUAL COUNCIL AND ENCOURAGEMENT (VOICE)

The Project Manager coordinates with the appropriate schools to determine the need for volunteers to work with individual teachers giving assistance to "at risk" students. These students may be slow learners, hyperactive, from homes which provide inadequate training/assistance; in general they might not be prepared to move up to the next level.

Volunteers are ne needed at the Early Learning Center for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, and the Primary School for 1st and 2nd grades. In lower grades, volunteer and student work in the hallways. They work on phonics, letters and numbers; they also work with simple problems, puzzles and games. Grades one and two work on reading skills, including basic reading skills. Volunteers assist a specific teacher for one or more periods; a volunteer session lasts 30 minutes to an hour; ten to fifteen minutes are devoted to each student.
