February 2008 Activities
At
our weekly meetings, we enjoyed speakers from Manasseh Ministries,
Trinity Mother Francis Hospital and Star Steppers. Manasseh Ministries
is a faith-based residential prison after-care program serving women
and their children for successful re-entry into society, providing
spiritual, emotional and physical support to achieve independence,
reunite families and end the revolving door of recidivism. MANASSEH
MINISTRIES and staff are dedicated to the possibility of transforming
lives. Representatives from Trinity Mother Francis talked to us about
the Ross Breast Center and Heart Valve Replacement. One of our meetings
was dedicated to a Valentine Reunion Celebration where present and
past members came together for a complimentary lunch, and listened
to Dr. Bryan Brown, Asst. Pastor of FUMC, Lindale.
Kiwanians could
be seen on Friday, Feb.15th, putting up flags that make Hideaway
so beautiful to drive through. If you would like to have a flag
put up in front of your house on 7 holidays throughout the year,
you can contact any Kiwanis member or send a check for $35 to John
Hicks, 1336 HAWL West, by April 30th. Also in February, after the
terrible storm in Lindale that damaged 2 schools, many of our Kiwanians
were there helping others in the community get the teachers set
up in their temporary classrooms while repairs are done.
Kiwanis is open
to men and women, and you do not have to be a HAWL resident, but
just a desire to help others in our community. Our meetings are
every Tuesday in the HAWL clubhouse from noon-1pm (lunch available
at 11:30), but attendance is NOT mandatory. Kiwanis is involved
in many projects, and you can choose
which ones might interest you, or you don’t have to do any
of them. Through Kiwanis you’ll meet and enjoy fellowship
with wonderful people. We assist other groups such as the Salvation
Army, Meals on Wheels, Children’s Miracle Network, Boy Scouts,
and Lindale ISD through many programs such as Read to Succeed,
Key Club and scholarships. Our main fundraisers each year are our Golf
tournament in May and Country
Fest in October. All proceeds that are raised are
given back to children of Lindale.
Coming up soon
will be the Easter Egg Hunt at
Funtier Park, and the big annual Golf
Tournament on May 12th. If you would like to play
in the tournament, or be a sponsor, please contact Marty Perry
(903) 882-4915 as soon as possible because the number of players
are limited and it fills up quickly. If any of you know a business
that would like to be a sponsor, please contact us also. Speakers
scheduled for March will be from Mercy Ships, Market Place Ministries,
Trinity Mother Francis and Children’s Village. For more information
on any of our meetings or activities, go to our website hideawaykiwanis.org
. Come join us for fun and fellowship…you always have friends
at Kiwanis!! |
